Back in May, Steve Zeitchik wrote some observations regarding short films and their current status in Hollywood. I saved the link for later perusal and was able to take the time to read it again today, found here. He notes that the current trend for big filmmaker wannabe's is to create powerful and compelling short films. One can generally assume that the guy who can direct a short with limited resources could also utilize the big budget dollars from a production company to create even greater works, and I agree with the notion for the most part.
The past several months I've been spending extra time being educated on screenwriting techniques (amongst others), as that was the weakest part of my skill set. I can direct, shoot, and edit, as can be seen on my vimeo page, but it's the story that is king. The future appears brighter as new-found knowledge shapes my work.
